Tarkett Sports supports Parasports Events at the 6th EDF-Handisport event
On Friday May 25th under beautiful sunny skies, the 6th EDF Handisport meeting was officially opened by Marie-Amélie Le Fur, parasport 100 and 200 meters world champion.
For the 4th consecutive year, Tarkett Sports supported the event by installing more than 400m² of vinyl flooring for a number of sports to be played. On May 25th and 26th, 2012 the forecourt of Paris City Hall was once again transformed into an arena for the EDFHandisport meetings. This event, which is free and open to everyone, hosted almost 6,000 visitors for an occasion dedicated to sharing and exchange between able-bodied and disabled people united by a shared passion, sport.
Tarkett Sports, a partner of the Fédération Française Handisport (French Parasports Federation) since 2008, once again made its expertise available by installing 400m² of sports flooring in this most unusual venue in record time (just 1 day). The central theme of this 2012 edition was the Paralympic Games. With just 100 days to go to the opening of the London Paralympic Games, the EDF-Handisport event was an opportunity to showcase Paralympic disciplines and athletes. 15 Paralympic sports and a whole raft of leisure activities were represented, introducing the audience to the thrills of Parasports by means of initiation sessions and demonstration workshops. Over the course of two days, some twenty Parasport athletes competed on Tarkett sports surfaces, demonstrating to an audience that had turned out in impressive numbers their passion for a variety of sports: athletics, fencing, weight-lifting, judo, archery, basketball, table tennis etc.
No fewer than 700 pupils from Parisian primary schools and a large number of disabled young people’s associations also took part. Members of the audience were able to leave messages of encouragement for the future French Paralympic team with 100 days to go before the start of the Paralympic Games in London (August 29th to September 9th).
