Designing for life
We are designing for life to create solutions that contribute to people-friendly spaces and respect the planet natural capital.
Since 2010, we’ve worked with the scientific institute EPEA to apply Cradle to Cradle® (C2C) principles throughout our activities. We have assessed thousands of ingredients to understand their impact on our health and the planet and continually seek to improve our products with new formulations and alternative ingredients.
Because indoor air quality is also impacted by the level of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions that come from paint, furniture or flooring, we decided in 2012 to start designing flooring with low or ultra-low VOC, and created new standards for the industry, doing good for our customers and users. In addition, we also contribute to healthier spaces using non-phthalate plasticizer technology: At the end of 2019, 100% of our vinyl production sites in Europe, North America, Serbia and China use phthalate-free plasticizer technology (except recycled content in certain products).

at our plants and continuously improving production processes through our World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program. We do this through limiting use of fresh water, through closed-loop water systems, reducing energy consumption, switching to green energy sources and finding ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
At Tarkett, we are committed to continuously improving the environmental impact of our production and to use resources as efficiently as possible. Thanks to collective efforts, in 2019 we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 15% vs 2010 (scope 1 & 2 intensity), as well as our water consumption intensity by 50% versus 2010. We also contribute to climate challenges through our commitment to circular economy by using recycled raw materials, which contribute less to greenhouse gas emissions than the extraction and processing of virgin raw materials.
